Platforms in Retrospect

Reflections on running platform teams; establishing alignment within and outside of your group is pivotal in avoiding traps like ownership ambiguity and rushing to build things that generate more bureaucracy.

Additional Thoughts on "How Platform Teams Get Things Done"

Choosing a “collaboration model” is often the smallest decision you make when having platform/feature teams work together. Before you go collaboration-model shopping, deciding whether the proposal should be accepted is an important first conversation and has direct implications on the long-term shape, utility, and adoption of the platform. Even after the change, there’s typically more post-change work to be done (think possible breaking changes, on-call, roadmap implications, updating other the components, possibly evangelizing the change etc) that need to be completed.
